CertiQA Live Browser Extension & Step Recorder Guide

Section titled “CertiQA Live Browser Extension & Step Recorder Guide”

The CertiQA Live Browser Extension enables real-time, cross-tab testing capabilities directly between the CertiQA IDE and any web application running in your browser (including localhost, intranet/VPN sites, and single-sign-on authenticated portals).

The extension is currently provided by CertiQA on request (contact [email protected]). You receive the extension package and install it in developer mode:

  1. Open chrome://extensions (Chrome) or edge://extensions (Edge) and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Click Load unpacked and select the extension folder you received.
  3. The extension appears as CertiQA Live Browser Inspector & Recorder.

🎯 2. How to Use the Interactive Locator Picker (“🎯 Pick”)

Section titled “🎯 2. How to Use the Interactive Locator Picker (“🎯 Pick”)”

When authoring or editing test steps in CertiQA:

  1. Open any Test Case in the CertiQA web application.
  2. In a test step row (e.g. Click, Enter Value, Assert), locate the Selector field.
  3. Click the 🎯 Pick button.
  4. Switch to the tab containing your target web application.
  5. You will see a live crosshair and element highlight overlay.
  6. Hover over any button, input, or container to inspect its Playwright locators (data-testid, aria-label, CSS selector, ID, XPath).
  7. Click the element: The exact optimal locator and confidence-scored fallback locators are automatically transmitted back into CertiQA, and focus returns to your test case.

  1. On the Test Case toolbar, ensure your test case type is UI or HYBRID.
  2. Click the Record Steps button in the toolbar.
    • The button turns into an active pulsing red indicator (Recording Active).
    • A floating live recording session bar appears above the steps list.
  3. Switch to your web application tab and interact with your app naturally:
    • Clicks: Click buttons, links, dropdowns, and checkboxes.
    • Inputs: Type values into text fields, search bars, and passwords.
    • Navigation: Navigate to different routes.
  4. Each interaction is recorded as a native Playwright test step with automatically computed self-healing selector candidates.
  5. When finished, click Finish Recording or toggle the Recording Active button in the toolbar to finalize and persist your steps.

  • Runs in your browser. Element inspection happens locally between tabs using browser messaging. See the extension’s privacy policy for exactly what is sent to CertiQA when you record or pick an element.
